Spring Conference Postponed to August

I’m sure that many of you are involved in conversations and preparations within your counties of how to be properly prepared to limit the spread of Covid-19. We are certainly optimistic with the positive data coming out, that this virus will be relatively short-lived. As of right now, we feel that the responsible thing to do is to align with Governor Coopers recommendation of limiting events of 100 people or more. We have also taken into consideration that many counties across the state have suspended all travel for the foreseeable future.

We have reviewed what our options are concerning the conference and feel that instead of cancelling our event, we will suspend and reschedule instead. While we wish we could have held our conference closer to the original time-frame, logistically, it was just not feasible. Our conference will now be held the week of August 12-14 with potentially still providing extra educational opportunities on Monday and Tuesday; August 10-11. Alan will be sending further information out next week to inform you of what your options are for reservations, Cvent, etc.

I highly advise that when you get these instructions, you have a conversation with your Finance Director/County Manager to make them aware of what we’re having to do from a health care standpoint and from a budget standpoint. We encourage those that still plan to attend the conference, to complete their registration in Cvent in this budget year. We are working with the hotel on providing instructions for how to prepay the hotel stay so that you can incur those costs in the current budget year as originally planned. Again, make sure you have the blessing of your county to incur those cost in this budget year for an event that will take place in the next budget year. For some counties, this may not be an issue so it will be up to you to make the best judgement call on that.

Again, further information with important instructions will be forthcoming next week from Alan Lumpkin. I’m sure that many of you will have questions, I ask that you wait for that email to come out as your questions may get answered then. We will certainly do our best to get your questions answered should you have any.

Your 2019-2020 NCTCA President,

Allison Snell, Tax Administrator, New Hanover County
